US states tracker
How many US states have you visited?
This tracker covers the 50 states plus Washington DC: 51 selectable places. Washington DC is not a state, but it is included because it is a federal district and one of the places people most often want to count separately from Maryland and Virginia.
Tick a state on the map or in the list. The headline number, regional progress and shared link all update as you go. A link carries the whole map, so you can send someone exactly the states you have visited without an account or a database.
Which standard does it use?
It uses the 50 states and the District of Columbia, and excludes US territories. That is the common “US states visited” standard. If you count territories, your personal total may be higher; this map will not reflect that.
Regions
The regional groups follow the four US Census regions: Northeast (9), Midwest (12), South (17, including DC) and West (13). They are a quick way to see which part of the country is still unexplored.

Your selections sit after the # in the address bar. Browsers do not send that part to a server, so the link is the save file. Copy link keeps it, New starts an empty map, and this browser remembers your last map locally.
State boundaries from the US Census Bureau, distributed through the public-domain us-atlas dataset. The 50-state plus DC standard excludes territories.
